Chronic absence has doubled when compared to rates before the pandemic, and its results have disrupted learning—but we can show up to blunt the damaging effects of high levels of absenteeism.
That’s one message behind the March 30 webinar, Belonging and Engagement: The Keys to Showing Up, which kicked off the 2023 Attendance Awareness Campaign. Speakers shared how they implemented strategic, long-term approaches to improve attendance and engagement. Most of the strategies are grounded in a deep understanding of the attendance barriers facing students and families, an approach that uses data to determine where to invest resources.
This first of four AAC webinars focused on increasing attendance, engagement and a sense of belonging by drawing on the assets of students, families and communities. Speakers explored what was possible before the school year ends, and shared strategies for connecting students experiencing chronic absence to fun learning experiences that rekindle the joy of learning during the summer.
